Stanford University provides scholarships and grants to students solely on the basis of financial need; no merit-based scholarships are given by the university. There are also special international scholarships to students at Stanford University who intend to study aboard or conduct independent research. Through University Scholarships, Stanford makes up the difference between the cost to attend the school and the parents' expected contribution.
